Hike to Terrace Mountain

Al Purdy will lead this out-and-back hike to the Terrace Mountain lean-to. This often-overlooked spur trail -- a requirement for the Catskills All Trails Challenge – is a scenic jaunt, especially after the leaves have fallen. Rated moderate-to-difficult, this seven-mile outing will take about five hours. Participants need to bring lunch/ snacks, water/ drink, sturdy hiking shoes, warm layers, rain gear, microspikes (just in case), and hiking poles (optional). Also note, hunting season is in effect, so hikers need to wear bright orange.

This hike is limited to 12 people, and registration is required by November 13. To register, contact Al Purdy at Albertpurdy1@aol.com or (845) 514-0919. Please note, dogs are not permitted on this hike; and severe weather will postpone the hike.

Driving directions: We will meet at 9am at the Woodland Valley Parking Area. Take Woodland Valley Road from State Route 28 just west of Phoenicia (about 23 miles from the NYS Thruway Kingston exit). After turning onto Woodland Valley Road, cross the Esopus Creek and turn right. In a short distance, keep left and continue 4.6 miles to the Woodland Valley Parking Area on the right.
