This 12-mile hike features both trail and bushwhack and will include a dip at Russell Brook Falls. This event may be of particular interest to those seeking to complete the Catskills All Trails Challenge. Rated as difficult, this outing is expected to take about 9.5 hours. The day’s pace will be moderate (about 1-1/2 mph moving pace) with short breaks.
Participants need to bring lunch/ snacks, plenty of water/ sports drink, rain gear, sturdy shoes, insect repellent, and sunscreen, hiking poles (recommended), and headlamp with extra batteries (just in case). This hike is limited to 12 participants and registration is required. To register, contact hike leader Marv Freedman at marvfreedman@gmail.com by August 26. Please include your cell number in your registration request. Dogs are permitted with the permission of the event leader.
We will meet at 8am at the Russell Brook Parking Area (and then shuttle to beginning of the hike at Campbell Mountain Road).
From the junction of State Route 30 and State Route 206/ CoHwy 7 (just east of Downsville), take 206/7 south for 8.9 miles and turn right onto Morton Hill Road. Continue 3.1 miles to Russell Brook Road, turn left, and continue to the parking area.
Driving directions. From the traffic light in Roscoe take State Route 206 north for 2.37 and turn left onto Morton Hill Road. Continue 3.1 miles to Russell Brook Road, turn left, and continue to the parking area.
