This event includes a swim in Colgate Lake after an 8.6-mile hike that will cover the entire Colgate Lake Trail. This scenic outing in the northern Catskills may be of particular interest to those undertaking the Catskills All Trails Challenge. Rated as moderate, this hike>swim is expected to take six-to-seven hours. We will hike at a moderate pace (about 1-1/2 mph moving speed) with steep climbs, and short breaks. Hikers need to bring lunch/ food, plenty of water/ sports drink, rain gear, sun and insect protection, sturdy hiking shoes, and hiking poles (recommended).
This hike is limited to 12 people and registration is required by August 19. To register, contact Marv Freedman at marvfreedman@gmail.com Please include your cell number in your registration request. Dogs are permitted with the permission of the event leader. Note, meeting place and time, route details, and required gear are subject to change based on weather forecast, trail conditions, etc. Updated information will be provided via email, usually about two to four days before the hike.
We will meet, ready to hike, at the Colgate Lake Trailhead at 8am.
Driving directions: From Route 23A in Tannersville (at traffic light), turn north onto County Highway 23C and continue 2.1 miles. At the stone church stay left, continue on 23C for 1 mile, and then turn right onto Colgate Lake Road. Continue on Colgate Lake Road for 1.5 miles to trailhead.
