Join Al Purdy and friends for 9.6-mile hike in the Western Catskills. The outing will begin on Little Spring Brook Road, then cover the southern portion of the Pelnor Hollow Trail, before concluding on the Mary Smith Trail on Holiday and Berry Brook Road. Rated as difficult, we expect the event to take eight hours.
Participants need to bring lunch/ snacks, water/ sports drink, proper clothing, rain gear, insect repellent, and sturdy hiking shoes. This hike is limited to 12 people and registration is required. To register, contact Al Purdy at Albertpurdy1@aol.com or (845) 514-0919 by May 16. Note, dogs are not permitted on this hike. The meeting place and ending of the hike will be Holiday Brook Road. From Holiday Brook Road we will carpool to Little Spring Brook Road/ the beginning of the hike.
Directions: From NYS Thruway Exit 19 Kingston, turn right onto Rte 28 West for 46.4 miles. Turn left onto Rte 30 for 18.8 miles. Turn left onto Holiday/Berry Brook Road for 2.9 miles to the DEC parking lot on your left.
From the Route 17 Exit at Roscoe, turn left on Old Route 17 (becomes NY 206) and proceed north for 2.9 miles and turn right onto Beaverkill Road. At 4.2 miles, stay left on Berry Brook Road and continue another 3.6 miles and the DEC parking area is on the right.
From Downsville, go east on Routes 30 and 206. At the split of 30 and 206 (about 2.7 miles from Downsville) stay on 30 and continue another 4.7 miles and turn right on Holiday and Berry Brook. Go 2.9 miles to the DEC parking lot on your left.
